At what age should children start to bathe themselves?

Also. When should opposite sex parents stop bathing children? Same sex parents?

Please answer in terms of age, maturity or any other measure you can think of.

  1. The general consensus among those who do parent education or child development is 7 years. A lot of reasons behind that, by then the kids have developed modesty, they are capable of washing themselves properly but more then that their safety in the tub is great and are unlikely to drown or have too hot water (as in burn themselves).

  2. When the child is old enough to bathe themselves. Which is different for each child but I would say 6 or 7

  3. I do not think it matters what sex the parent is, it is their child no parent should have perverse thoughts about it but I would say around age six.

  4. mine started at 4… only if i was in my room which is right next door

sexe is a non-issue… if the kid is old enough then neither of us do it… if they are still young then it just depends who is there at teh time

  5. well i started at age 7

  6. Depends on the kid, I could handle it at 5. I let my daughter do it when she could rinse all the soap out of her hair at 4 or 5. If you teach them to be careful with the water temp and show them how to work the faucets, then it depends on the maturity level of the kid. There is NO REASON for EITHER parent to be GIVING a bath after the age of 5-6! If your kid can’t handle a bath on it’s own by 5-6 there is something WRONG!!!

  7. 5 years old. I think mom stoppped bathing my brother and sister around 5. They were then expected to bathe themselves.

  8. I stopped bathing my son regularly at 5 I taught him how to bathe himself at 3 and 4 years and he mastered it by 5.
