Have you seen the movie? There’s a very good reason why the black dude doesn’t shoot at the bikers, just like there’s a very good reason the bikers didn’t shoot at him…
Go watch what James Cameron did in the movie True Lies. Just watch what he does with the camera, it will blow you mind if you enjoyed this. Also go watch the movie Panic Room. Some of the most dazzling camera work in movie history. Don’t take my word for it, just go watch those two movies for a treat.
This is absolutely *amazing* film making. Yes, having watched it several times I see where the “digital cuts” are…. But, watching it the first time through was nothing short of magical. You weren’t just watching it… you were INSIDE it, and that’s an incredible achievement…
@OneYearMovieProject I actually (slightly) prefer this scene to the big one at the end, as well. This one is so sudden and “out of the blue” (not in a bad way, though), that it hits you right in the gut.
@sparks444 I wouldn’t say “unfortunately” the long scenes were pieced together. In the end, all that matters is the effect of the scene on the screen. Do it with digitally disguised cuts or not, all the matters is the final effect, and the two big long shots in this movie are masterful. Often long takes are just stunts and don’t help the storytelling at all. I think in both scenes in this movie it adds verisimilitude – make it feel almost like a documentary – and thus they are more exciting.
did you not get an idea of what was to happen by the end of this scene? he had a gun the whole time and never shot it.
Anyone else notice that when they take off at the very end of this video, the driver switches to the right lane instead of staying in the left? Haha
the killsssss
When Julian died, a little part of me died inside also.

this movie make me wonder why that black dude didn’t pull out his pistol and shot back at the bikers
well i know its a little off topic but could anyone id the song playing in the radio.?
Haven’t seen True Lies, and since I’m a Cameron fan, I think I’ll definitely have to see it. And Panic Room is great.

A brilliant exercise in the art of cinematography.

Much respect to Alfonso Cuaron and other directors who do these long takes. It must have been difficult to get everything right in one try.
I liked the part where he knocks the guys off the cycle and they go spinning over the hood. AWESOME MOVIE
