Parents have avenues available to protect their children from undesirable content regarding tv and internet, for example, stations and websites can be blocked. The kids own sites like Myspace etc can be set to private or limited to friends and family etc. Not much can be done about newspapers (except don’t buy them) – but they’re not usually that offensive.
television news and current affairs, shows and movies are classified as per age of the viewer, so it up to the parents or guardians to see to it that kids are allowed to watch what they are supposed to.
PARENTS! It’s the parents responsibility to protect their child from what they watch. Not the networks, not the media moguls. Parents. It’s because their wrapped up in their own problems they fail to take responsibility for what their children see & hear. So they go & blame the video game companies, or the movie industry saying it’s their faut. Parents can never admit they made a mistake, or should take responsibility.
Sorry for going off on a tangent. Just, I see so few parents doing their part & making time to be involved in their child’s life.
