A lot of americans forget or do not know that the US backed Bin Laden. Some still think reagan was a great president. They did not see the rambling, bumbling right wing loony that the rest of the world saw.
At the time, bin Laden and the Mujahedin were allies of convenience in a proxy war against Russia.
He didn’t do this. You’re lying and smearing the best President we’ve had in 50 years.
Bin Laden was fighting against the commies of the Evil Empire at that point in time.
Mandela is a terrorist and Bin was a good friend to the US then,Bush sr putting American troops on Saudi soil ended that
lol…it’s like a gay marriage…..they spend all of their time fighting to be recognized as being together and when things get tough they seperate and spend the rest of their lives trying to destroy each other…..lol
Political alliances. At the time, the Taliban was fighting Russia in Afghanistan and we were funding them.
We were also not an ally of Mandela. He was considered an insurgent in South Africa.
Conservatives are like that. He also gave weapons to both Iran and Iraq.
He didn’t.
That was the case at the time.
Obama was fighting the Russians, and Mandela was indeed a terrorist.
I guess I’d say if you think because Mandela’s ideals were good, it excuses his methods, then you support the 9/11 attackers and all terrorists, because they say all they are doing is fighting oppression.
Do you really need this explained or are you just feeding a fire of discontent with some
stupid dialogue you have absolutely No meaning of. Nice try skippy. Your either a troll or an antagonist
you choose.
That’s a great question, because from the answer one can learn about recent history, and also about a constantly re-occurring theme in human relations.
The recent history is that 23 years ago the US and the USSR were in the late stages of that quasi-war known as the Cold War. The Cold War had begun at the very end of WW II, as the Soviets took over many nations east of Germany. They made them either territory of the USSR or satellite states. The political regimes in all those nations had to be in complete fealty and obedience to the communists in the Kremlin. The Soviet Bloc was a very repressive place. All of a person’s activities were scrutinized by police and secret police and only limited approved activities were allowed. Everyone was poor, everyone suffered for the sake of the perverted delusions of Marxism.
Satellite nations had tried to break away, outright revolts against the USSR and their toadies were had, becoming more common by 1987. For example in 1980 the independent workers union Solidarity had started in the shipyards on Poland and by 1987 had become famous and powerful, despite government acts of repression.
Reagan became US President in 1981. He was THE MAN fro his time and role in world history. In other words, it is clear in all the historical content that he fulfilled the ancient Chinese wisdom of "Right Man, Right Place, Right Time".
His important major historical role? To complete the destruction of the Soviet Union and to allow the liberation of hundreds of millions of people from the dread and deadly oppressions of communism.
The USSR had invaded Afghanistan during the Presidency of the weakling sad-sack Jimmy Carter. It is certain that Carter’s weakness was part of their calculation as to why their invasion would succeed and they would secure their own national underbelly for in that south-western Asian region was a constant place of danger for them.
Yet, they were failing. The Afghans were a rough and tough people used to fighting in the difficult mountains, and even the weakling Carter saw the benefit of supporting the Afghan resistance. The rich-boy Saudi Osama bin Laden arrived in Afghanistan to join the resistance in 1979, when Carter was President.
It is a natural part of international strategy, one long established in history, to support those who fight your enemy. It is quite rational, and normal for President Ronald Reagan to support those Afghan resistance forces, which included the then hardly-noticeable Osama bin Laden. OSAMA WAS ONLY 22 YEARS OLD WHEN HE CAME TO AFGHANISTAN. In all of Reagan’s years Osama was almost unknown as a "player".
It wasn’t until Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990, and Saudi Arabia allowed kaffir US infidel troops on the Holy Soil of Saudi Arabia did Osama began the processes that started Al Queda. Reagan’s last month in office was January 1989. In other words, while Reagan was President Obama was indeed our ally!
It is like the Soviet Union being our ally during World War II, and then our enemy afterward.
It is a perfectly normal thing in human history!

Let’s consider Mandela. Mandela was indeed a terrorist. In 1961 Mandela became leader and founder of the South African rebel group African National Congress’s armed wing, the MK. He had joined the ANC in 1948, and for years they were a political group. But they were not satisfied with the political effect of their efforts against apatheid. They also had communist connections and occasional connections to agents of the USSR. Mandela coordinated sabotage against military and government targets, and waged a guerrilla war. Many civilians became casualties. Those civilian murders make Mandela a terrorist.
Yes, Mandela originally wanted to restrict his groups actions to military targets and non-violent protests. But as these did not produce the political effects wanted, he and his allies increased the violence of their attacks. He was arrested and imprisoned in 1964.
When Regan became President in 1981, Mandela’s long and difficult imprisonment had become famous internationally. Still, if Reagan did call Mandela a terrorist — you have not supplied a citation for that — it would be an honest label. And it also would be consistent with the great historical role Reagan had taken up — the defeat of communism and the Soviet Union.

Here’s the big picture take-away, human relation-wise:
People change. Some cads and enemies redeem themselves to become friends and allies, others who although once heroes and friends fall into traps and become vile enemies and dangers.
Reagan was an honest man, and a great man. He was right to call Bin Laden an ally. He was right to call Mandela a terrorist.
was the anc, black panthers and all,not the same as the ira, bader meinhoff excuse the spelling.ok to be a terrorist in hindsight yeah?rose tinted glasses.there is a reason governments come down hard on these people. its for you,re protection.that is why we live in relative security.freedom to live yo,ure lives.gay, woman, you,re choice.would you like the alternative?
